Kylian Mbappe’s potential exit from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer is reportedly damaging the French club’s summer transfer plans.

The 24-year-old goal machine has just one year remaining on his contract and there is currently no indication that he will sign an extension.

Reports now suggest that PSG may not be able to finance a move for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva if they fail to resolve Mbappe’s situation.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for years but his astronomical price tag has always prevented a deal from happening.

As a result, he may well see out his deal at the Parc des Princes so he can join Los Blancos on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

According to the Athletic, if this happens, it would have a domino effect on Financial Fair Play rules for the Ligue 1 champions.

This could reportedly mean that PSG will have to sell players to make up for a loss that has been estimated at a staggering €175M (approx. £150m). Their plight could also have an impact on Man City.

As previously reported by Football365, PSG have identified Silva as a key target for the summer.

The Portugal international is keen to take on a fresh challenge away from the Etihad and PSG, along with Barcelona and several Saudi clubs, are interested in signing him.

This is despite Guardiola being a big fan of Silva’s. The manager’s policy has always been to sell players who want to leave, though, so he is expected to move elsewhere this summer.

Since joining Man City in 2017, Silva has made 306 appearances across all competitions, scoring 55 goals and making 59 assists.

Silva has played a big role in the Cityzen’s success too, lifting 14 major honours. The highlight of his Man City career was last season, though, when he helped his team to finally win the Champions League and clinch a historic treble.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see PSG, who are yet to win the Champions League, pushing to sign Silva this summer.

It is believed Man City will demand a fee of around £50m for Silva. That seems unattainable for PSG at the moment. As a result, the Athletic say the move is now ‘on hold.’

This means that Barcelona could become the favourites to sign the versatile player. The Spanish club have just signed Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer, too.

The Catalans have plenty of financial issues, though, so a move to a Saudi club certainly isn’t out of the question.
