Paul Simonis has continued the KNVB Cup jubilation by extending his contract with Go Ahead Eagles. The 40-year-old coach is now fixed in Deventer until the summer of 2027.

Simonis’ contract with Go Ahead initially ran until the summer of 2026, but has now been extended by a year. He was appointed as the new head coach at the start of this season at the club where he had already worked as assistant coach from 2020 to 2022.

In his first season, Simonis finished seventh in the Eredivisie and, of course, won the KNVB Cup in a dramatic final against AZ Alkmaar.

In addition to the head coach’s contract, Go Ahead continue to work with Dennis van der Ree, Tristan Berghuis, Eric Weghorst, Frank Berghuis, Martin Darneviel, Jimmy Barnhoorn and Max Jansen for another year.

Speaking of his and his staff’s new deals, Simonis said, “In the changing world of football, it is very nice that you can maintain continuity”, he said via the club channels. “Certainly with the challenge that lies ahead of us. We are going into Europe with Go Ahead Eagles. Wonderful. There is still a great challenge waiting for us in the coming years.”

“I am very happy with it (the contract extension). I am really enjoying myself at this great club. It was a great proposal from the club. There is a lot of confidence and appreciation from the club.”
