Foot Africa has it on good authority that South African striker Khanyisa Mayo is one of the three players that are deemed surplus to requirements by CR Belouizdad coach Sead Ramovic, who is eager to trim the squad.

The former Cape Town City talisman signed for the Chababists in August 2024, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal. However, with the German mentor having taken over in February, the player’s future is uncertain.

Mayo made 41 appearances and scored six goals with a solitary assist provided in his debut season – a return the gaffer and the club’s hierarchy believe is below par after beating a host of interested suitors to his signature last season.

Whispers echoing from Algeria suggest that Belouizdad tried to settle for a mutual separation with Mayo, but the Umtata-born star’s entourage insisted on receiving full compensation for the remaining years, which saw talks hit a snag.

Furthermore, an impeccable source has indicated that the club has exhausted its foreign quota, having signed more foreign players. Belouizdad are said to be facing a conundrum of registering their new foreign signings, hence they are keen to offload the ones at their disposal.

Now, recent information reaching this publication is that Ramovic told Mayo along with Cameroonian defensive midfielder Jacques Mbe and Ivorian central midfielder Arafat Doumbia, that they are not part of his plans.

The former TS Galaxy tactician set the record straight that the trio must terminate their contracts with the club or face a season on the sidelines following the conclusion of their pre-season camp, with a blockbuster league opener against MC Alger on the horizon.

While Mayo’s future hangs in the balance, fellow Algerian Ligue 1 clubs MC oran and CS Constantine are believed to have an interest in signing the 26-year-old on a season-long loan with a view of making the deal permanent, provided he replicates the form he displayed in his homeland.
