La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are set to be without the services of José María Giménez, for their next outing on the continent.

This comes owing to developments in the club’s meeting with Lille on Wednesday.

Atlético are of course fresh off an evening to forget on the continent, which saw the Rojiblancos surrender an early advantage, en route to an eventual 3-1 home defeat at the hands of LOSC Lille.

This marked a 2nd defeat on the spin for Diego Simeone’s troops in the Champions League, leaving them in a precarious situation when it comes to advancing to the competition’s next round.

The immediate road ahead does not look any easier, either, with a trip to French champions Paris Saint-Germain next on the agenda for Atlético in two weeks’ time.

And making the task at hand in Paris all the more trying will be the absence of a key member of the club’s backline.

José María Giménez was shown his latest yellow card, for protesting to the referee in last night’s defeat to Lille.

This marked the Uruguayan’s third booking of the Champions League campaign, giving rise to a one-game UEFA-enforced suspension.

Giménez, as a result, will not be available for selection to boss Simeone at the Parc des Princes on November 6th.
