Huddersfield Town signing Joe Taylor could fire the Terriers back to the Championship

Huddersfield Town sit fourth in the League One table, and just four points behind the automatic promotion spots, with a game in hand on second place Wycombe Wanderers.

The Terriers have enjoyed a remarkable 15-game unbeaten run in the third tier, with their last league defeat coming all the way back on October 1, when the West Yorkshire side lost 1-0 to league leaders Birmingham City.

That defeat to Blues then marked the Terriers' fourth consecutive defeat, and at that point, Michael Duff's side were not in the best position to launch a serious automatic promotion challenge.

However, since then, the West Yorkshire outfit have proven just how good they are, as Duff and co could well be on course to secure a Championship return at the first time of asking.

Joe Taylor addition has majorly boosted Huddersfield's promotion credentials

The Terriers are already on an incredible run of form, and could soon overtake third-placed Wrexham, who lost to Barnsley on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, last time out in League One, Duff's men defeated promotion rivals Wycombe, thus demonstrating their ability to get the better of a side that have been going very well in the third tier.

Furthermore, the Chairboys have been handed a significant dent to their promotion ambitions, as second tier strugglers Luton Town have taken manager Matt Bloomfield from them, as first revealed by Football League World.

But the biggest boost the Terriers have received in their challenge for a spot in next season's Championship is the signing of striker Joe Taylor, who recently arrived from Luton for a transfer fee in the region of £3 million, with such a deal demonstrating club owner and chairman Kevin Nagle's intent on securing promotion for Huddersfield come the end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old impressively displayed his attacking prowess in League One while on loan with Lincoln City from the Hatters last season, as he scored 10 goals and created three assists in 19 third tier appearances for the Imps, after joining them last January.

If Taylor can emulate that sort of form in front of goal for the Terriers this term, then it will give Duff's men a serious chance of beating the likes of Wrexham and Wycombe to an automatic promotion spot, likely alongside current table toppers Birmingham.

It wasn't just with the Imps that the striker displayed his goalscoring tendencies last season either, as he spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Colchester United, and scored 11 goals in 25 League Two outings.

Taylor is arguably the perfect acquisition for the Terriers, who are clearly in need of a goalscorer, given the fact that midfielder Ben Wiles is currently the club's joint top scorer, alongside on-loan forward Callum Marshall, in League One with just six goals to his name.

His ability to remain calm under pressure, which will be important during the latter stages of the Terriers' promotion bid, is epitomised by the fact that he scored a penalty during the Hatter's 2023 shootout win over Coventry City.

Luton Town could go on to regret Joe Taylor sale if he fires for Huddersfield Town

While selling the 22-year-old, who isn't yet a proven goalscorer at Championship level for a fee of £3m is relatively strong business for Luton Town, they could go on to regret selling their man to the Terriers.

The Kenilworth Road outfit currently sit just two points above the second tier relegation zone, and are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the division, having managed just 27 goals in 26 games.

If Taylor's move to West Yorkshire turns out to be a successful move, and fires Duff's men to promotion, the Hatters may rue their decision to cash in on their man, especially if their own attacking woes continue.

Ultimately though, regardless of the Hatters' Championship exploits, it is the Terriers faithful who will be best pleased by the young forward's move, as chairman Nagle could have landed his club a promotion winning asset.
