Manchester City may find out what the future holds for Kevin De Bruyne this month while they await whether the Belgian will be involved at this summer’s Club World Cup, a new report has outlined.
De Bruyne will be leaving the 2023 treble winners in the next few months after bosses at the Etihad Stadium decided against handing the Belgium international, who will turn 34 in June, a new deal beyond the expiration of his current contract.
A six-time Premier League champions under Pep Guardiola, De Bruyne has relayed his disappointment at the club’s decision since he made an announcement across his social media channels in April to confirm this would be his final season in Manchester.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder – who has long-standing interest from the Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia – and has kept the door open on a possible stay in England as he assesses offers and makes a firm decision on the next chapter of his professional career.
De Bruyne is understood to prefer the United States as a destination to settle his family over Saudi Arabia amid ongoing talks with a number of MLS clubs, such as David Beckham’s Inter Miami, with no certainty yet on where the Manchester City playmaker will be playing next term.
Aston Villa have recently held internal talks over a possible swoop for De Bruyne at the end of the season after a stellar year under Unai Emery that saw them bring in Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio on loan in January and reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
However, as confirmed by GIVEMESPORT’s Tom Bogert, The Chicago Fire are now in pole position for the signature of Kevin De Bruyne as a free agent this summer, with the Belgian preferring a move to the MLS over Saudi Arabia.
It is explained that the midfielder hopes to have a decision made on his next club as soon as this month in order to determine whether he can play for Manchester City at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which would have to be negotiated with his new team.
There is uncertainty looming over whether De Bruyne will represent Manchester City at the FIFA Club World Cup between June and July, with reports indicating a reluctance at the playmaker’s end on that front stemming from a fear of a potential injury that could derail progression of talks with suitor clubs.
Whilst Guardiola has denied talks with De Bruyne over the latter’s hesitation to play in the Club World Cup, Manchester City fans will witness De Bruyne playing in sky blue at home for the final time when Bournemouth visit the Etihad Stadium in two weeks’ time.
De Bruyne will be desperate to lead Manchester City over the line and help his side guarantee qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League with a strong finish to their Premier League campaign and a victory in the FA Cup final over Crystal Palace at Wembley.
