Harry Kane made Bundesliga history on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over Augsburg to become the fastest player to reach 50 league goals in the competition’s history.
The England captain achieved the milestone in just 43 Bundesliga appearances, shattering the previous record held by Erling Braut Haaland, who required seven more games to reach the same tally with Borussia Dortmund days. Kane’s remarkable scoring exploits in Germany have been a revelation since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
The 31-year-old netted 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches last season, part of a total haul of 44 goals across all competitions.
Kane has already scored 14 goals in 10 league games this season, keeping him on course to challenge Robert Lewandowski’s single-season Bundesliga record of 41 goals, set in the 2020/21 campaign.
Despite his individual brilliance, Kane’s transition to life in Germany has not been without its challenges
Bayern’s disappointing draw with Bayer Leverkusen in September, followed by a shock Champions League defeat to Aston Villa, drew criticism towards Kane from the German media. His decision to leave England in pursuit of silverware raised expectations, but the striker is yet to lift a trophy with Bayern. The striker’s focus remains on maintaining his stunning goalscoring form and propelling Bayern towards reclaiming the Bundesliga title they lost last season.
With records in sight and critics to silence, the striker’s influence at the Allianz Arena continues to grow.
