Harry Kane was honored at Monday night's Ballon d'Or ceremony, with the Bayern Munich striker picking up the Gerd Müller Trophy for his prolific goalscoring for club and country over the past year.
The award, named after Bayern legend Gerd Muller, was shared by Kane and Mbappé, who finished the year level on 52 goals.
After receiving the award from former Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kane thanked his teammates and the club.
“It's an honor to take this award from a club legend [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge]. It was a new chapter for me. Going to Germany, taking my family with me was a new experience, I didn't know what to expect,” Kane said.
“To get off to the start I did, credit to my teammates. I went along for the ride and we had a good season.”
Reacting to the award win, current Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was full of praise for the 31-year-old, who has quickly established himself in Germany following his move from Tottenham in the summer.
“We at Bayern are all very pleased that Harry Kane was rewarded with the Gerd Müller Trophy. Our goal guarantee was given the award that is named after an absolute Bayern legend and the greatest goalscorer in history. That makes us doubly proud," said Dreesen.
"Harry won over the hearts of the fans here from the first day and is setting record after record. We’re very happy that we have him.”
