Juventus are open to letting out-of-favor midfielder Nicolo Fagioli join Olympique Marseille, but only on one condition. According to Calciomercato, the record-time Italian champions will only allow the 23-year-old to leave the club permanently.

Marseille’s initial plan was to sign Fagioli on loan. However, Juventus would only sanction such an agreement if the Ligue 1 giants agree to include a mandatory buyout clause. Thiago Motta’s side would ideally sell the Italy international immediately to raise funds for the summer.

It could reportedly take up to €18 million to convince Juventus to give up Fagioli’s services. The player’s contract at the Allianz Stadium runs out in 2028, which puts the Bianconeri in a strong bargaining position. Talks with Marseille are alive and kicking, but the French club must agree to Juve’s terms.

Juventus turned down Marseille’s opening loan bid. But negotiations are proceeding in good faith. But any temporary switch would exclude ‘an option to buy,’ as the Italians insist on an outright sale.

Fagioli has been on the fringes of Motta’s squad this season. Despite making 17 appearances in Serie A, he has only started five matches, last being part of the starting line-up in early December. He was on the bench as Juventus lost 2-1 at Napoli on Saturday.

Khephren Thuram’s rise to stardom has curtailed Fagioli’s first-team prospects at Juventus. As such, he may favor a move to the Stade Velodrome, where he would have a chance to work with Roberto De Zerbi.
