Juventus are plotting a move to sign Spanish full-back Lucas Vazquez on a free transfer this summer, according to Tuttosport.
Vazquez is available as a free agent after his contract with Real Madrid expired, bringing an end to his spell with the Spanish giants after nearly two decades.
Despite offers from the Saudi Pro League, the 34-year-old is determined to compete in Europe, like his ex-Madrid team-mate Luka Modric, who recently signed for AC Milan.
The Bianconeri are in the market for defensive reinforcements and value Vazquez’s experience.
Especially, the right-back position needs strengthening due to the growing interest in youngsters Nicolo Savona and Alberto Costa.
Porto have been in negotiations to sign Costa, while Newcastle United are pushing to persuade Savona following his breakout campaign.
Vazquez will bring Champions League pedigree to Juventus, even though he would be considered a short-term signing.
The Spaniard enjoyed more game time last season due to Dani Carvajal’s injury, featuring in 52 games in all competitions, racking up two goals and eight assists.
Vazquez has amassed 38 goals and 73 assists in 402 appearances for Los Blancos, winning five UCL titles, five La Liga trophies and several other titles.
The Spanish defender is adept at playing as a centre-back, right-back and as a winger, which will make him a flexible option for Juve manager Igor Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 set-up.
Juve are also looking to recruit a top-class centre-back this summer, and Stuttgart’s Jeff Chabot is among the preferred targets.
Having signed Jonathan David on a free transfer, the Turin giants are eyeing more attacking reinforcements.
Manchester United wingers Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are high on Juve’s wishlist.
