Versatile Juventus and Italy international defender Andrea Cambiaso has glowed with praise for two Manchester City stars during a recent interview.
Pep Guardiola’s consistently find themselves as being viewed as the very best in the business, especially off the back of some of the most remarkable achievements in the game and those performances being recognised on the global stage.
The 2022/23 season saw Manchester City become only the second side in English football history to win the illustrious Treble, having added an FA Cup and first-ever UEFA Champions League to a third successive Premier League title.
Following on from successes in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, Manchester City would then become the first club in English football history to win four successive top-flight titles with another Premier League triumph last campaign.
And the role played by Rodri in particular went a long way towards the 28-year-old winning the Ballon d’Or last month, whilst a whole host of other Manchester City names are viewed as key inspirations and role models to fellow professionals.
Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Andrea Cambiaso revealed taking inspiration from, and adoring the work of, Manchester City’s breakthrough teenage talent, Rico Lewis.
“I grew up with the myth of (Joao) Cancelo, but I never stopped taking inspiration from the good ones,” Cambiaso explained, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.
He continued, “Today I adore (Oleksandr) Zinchenko, Rico Lewis and (Riccardo) Calafiori.”
Going on to discuss his most challenging opponents faced in recent months and years, Cambiaso named one Manchester City forward that would leave him hospitalised.
“Uh, so many,” the 24-year-old Juventus man admitted. “But if I think back to (Bradley) Barcola and (Jeremy) Doku they’ll put me in the hospital.”
Manchester City are currently in the midst of a challenging period in the club’s season, facing a run of four defeats on the bounce should they fall to a loss this weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Rico Lewis and Jeremy Doku are both likely to be available for Pep Guardiola, with the latter recently recovering from a muscular injury but returning to action against Bournemouth and Sporting in the last two matches.
