Tomorrow evening, Inter host Juventus in the first Derby d’Italia of the season.

And on the bench for the Bianconeri will be a figure who is very familiar to the Nerazzurri.

Formerly a midfielder during his playing days, Motta spent two and a half years with Inter.

The 42-year-old made 83 appearances for the Nerazzurri and scored twelve goals.

Motta also played for several other clubs during his playing days. He had spells with the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Genoa before coming to Inter.

And Motta joined Paris Saint-Germain from the Nerazzurri midway through the 2011-12 season. He spent more time in the French capital than playing for any other club.

Meanwhile, despite the fact that he was born in Brazil, Motta actually represented Italy at international level. He won a total of 32 caps for the Azzurri.

But it was arguably during his time at Inter that Motta experienced his true career high point.

Motta was an important player for the Nerazzurri as they won the European Treble of the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League during the 2010-11 campaign, his first at the club.

“He’s doing well,” the coach said of the Turkish international. “He has to improve in everything, but we all do.”

“The defensive phase, concentration, in attack.. He’s a great player, even if he’s still young.”

Motta said that “we’re lucky to have” Yildiz, “and to be able to use him either as a winger or in attacking midfield.
