Thiago Motta cut a handful of stars from his Juventus squad and has instead turned to young talent to lead the Bianconeri forward. That decision proved pivotal on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.

Como’s return to the top flight in Italy after 21 years was ultimately one to forget with only three shots over 90 minutes and none managed to hit the target. Andrea Belloti was hauled off after little impact while Raphael Varane was unavailable through injury.

Instead, the pitch was a platform for Juventus’ young talent to shine.

Samuel Mbangula, 20, opened the scoring after earning a starting nod over Douglas Luiz. He recovered the ball on the left wing, cut inside on his right and drilled home a low strike beyond Pepe Reina on his Serie A debut.

A 19-year-old Kenan Yıldız then pulled the strings for Juventus’ second goal. The No. 10 cut back a ball toward Tim Weah at the top of the box seeing the American strike from range under the crossbar and in before being forced off with a hamstring injury.

The one man who was left frustrated all night was Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian international attempted to join in on the goals and saw an effort in the second half ruled out alongside two efforts hitting the woodwork.

Fortunately for him, Andrea Cambiaso scored a late third in the dying moments to all but seal the victory and the club sits second in the table while Como are 18th.
