Donnarumma Keen to Stay as PSG Await Contract Resolution

Donnarumma focused on Paris future despite outside interest

As Manchester United weigh up their options in goal, Gianluigi Donnarumma appears set on remaining in Paris. Speaking after Italy’s 2-0 victory over Moldova, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper made his intentions clear: “My priority is to stay at PSG. I don’t think there will be problems in the negotiations.”

Despite the backdrop of contract uncertainty, Donnarumma’s position remains rooted in loyalty. His current deal runs until June 2026, but talks over an extension have reportedly hit a pause, according to ESPN’s Julien Laurens.

Interest from Manchester and Milan

That pause has prompted interest. Sources suggest both Manchester United and Inter Milan have contacted Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, to explore a potential move. United, in particular, see the Italian international as a possible replacement for André Onana, with manager Ruben Amorim open to change.

PSG’s contingency planning fuels speculation

PSG remain keen to keep their No. 1, with sporting director Luis Campos expected to resume talks soon. However, the French champions are reportedly also tracking Lille’s Lucas Chevalier as a possible successor, should Donnarumma’s contract situation drag on.

A summer move remains unlikely for now, but United’s interest highlights a wider search for experience and reliability at the back.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For all the noise around Donnarumma, there is reason to remain sceptical. The Italy international may have stated his desire to stay, but this is football, and statements of loyalty are often followed by agent-led manoeuvres and abrupt turns.

From a Manchester United perspective, the link is intriguing but puzzling. Donnarumma is a high-profile name, but would he truly solve the issue at hand? United’s problems in goal over the past season were as much about cohesion and system fit as they were about individual mistakes. Replacing André Onana after just one campaign, without addressing the deeper structural flaws in the back line, feels more like a headline move than a strategic one.

And then there is the issue of wages. Donnarumma would not come cheap, and his arrival could unsettle a dressing room already in transition under a new manager. For all his quality, does he represent the right type of stability United are seeking?

Sometimes, the most attractive solution is not always the most necessary.
