Manchester City are reportedly subject to intensifying transfer interest from La Liga in recently-crowned Copa America champions Julian Alvarez.

The future of Pep Guardiola’s versatile attacking profile was thrown into doubt earlier this summer, when it had first emerged that the former River Plate man held an interest in exploring fresh opportunities for increased game time.

The stance from the player came despite playing an integral role in Manchester City’s most recent season, operating across the attacking midfield roles and in the lead striker position in the absence of Erling Haaland.

Kevin De Bruyne and the Norwegian’s absences through long-term injury problems led to Julian Alvarez being called upon alongside a number of options throughout Guardiola’s selections, most-commonly Phil Foden in attacking midfield.

But despite the improvement in opportunities, Julian Alvarez is attracting interest from one of Europe’s most prominent clubs, hoping to take advantage of the player’s stance and openness to moving elsewhere within the top-five leagues.

That is according to new information from journalist César Luis Merlo, who reports that Atlético Madrid have now ‘advanced’ for Manchester City’s striker, and there are already negotiations for the Argentine forward.

It is further detailed that the 24-year-old is also ‘willing’ to leave the Etihad Stadium as he ‘wants a greater role’ in a starling line-up.

Aside from the club from the Spanish capital, there is a belief that Paris Saint-Germain would also be keen to explore the potential of doing a deal for the player, whilst Chelsea hold admiration in his talents.

Julian Alvarez’s 2024/25 season for Manchester City is not expected to get underway for at least another six weeks, with the forward having been selected for Argentina at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Representation for the reigning Champions of the World will follow outings at the recently-concluded Copa America, in which Argentina also claimed with significant contributions from Alvarez culminating in a final victory over Colombia.
