Liverpool’s dominant performance against West Ham was a masterclass, but it was Mohamed Salah’s post-match comments on his future that grabbed headlines. In the latest episode of Media Matters on Anfield Index, Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele shared insights into Salah’s situation, urging fans to remain calm and trust the process.
Salah’s remarkable form this season has reaffirmed his status as one of the world’s best. However, as his contract talks continue, uncertainty looms large. When asked about the status of negotiations after the West Ham match, Salah’s response was measured but cryptic:
“We are far away from that. I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff. But nothing really…move on.”
For many fans, this comment added to the anxiety surrounding the Egyptian star’s future. However, Steele offered a more reassuring perspective, explaining that negotiations of this magnitude take time:
“These things aren’t as easy as a lot of the fans seem to think they are. A little bit of patience is required.”

Salah’s contract situation is undoubtedly complex, involving more than just salary discussions. Steele highlighted that bonuses and the length of the deal are critical sticking points. At 32 years old, Salah’s next contract is likely to define the remainder of his prime years. Steele explained:
“If he only gets offered a year, we’ll be sat here in a year talking about contracts again. I think Salah would want a slightly longer contract because that just future proofs him a bit more.”
While Liverpool may be cautious about offering a long-term deal due to Salah’s age, his performances continue to defy expectations. Steele added, “The science suggests he should be slowing down, but Salah is defying that at the moment.”
Despite the drawn-out negotiations, Steele expressed confidence that a resolution would be reached:
“I would be very surprised if he’s not at Liverpool this time next year. He has said enough times that he wants to stay, and it’s very obvious that Liverpool want him to stay.”
Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, is reportedly working tirelessly behind the scenes to finalise the deal. Steele revealed that Hughes has been negotiating throughout the holiday period to secure the best outcome for both the club and the player.

Amid the contract speculation, Salah remains focused on delivering for Liverpool. His performances have been nothing short of spectacular, with goals and assists flowing at an incredible rate. Steele noted that Salah’s commitment on the pitch speaks volumes:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime player. He loves the club and has made that clear.”
Even Salah’s post-match remarks reinforced his drive to achieve collective success:
“I’m now focused with the team. Hopefully, we win the Premier League.”
While fans are understandably eager for a resolution, Steele urged patience, reminding everyone of Salah’s loyalty to the club and the complexities of high-stakes negotiations. As the season progresses, all parties will be hoping for a positive outcome that ensures Salah remains the heartbeat of Liverpool’s attack.
“This is a player who could wipe the floor with goal and assist tallies this season. He’ll win the Golden Boot in the Premier League unless something extraordinary happens,” Steele said, underscoring Salah’s irreplaceable value.
As Liverpool march towards what could be another historic season, the hope is that Salah’s future at Anfield will soon be secured, putting any lingering doubts to rest.
