Josh Sargent backs decision to stay at Norwich amid USMNT uncertainty | OneFootball

USMNT striker Josh Sargent looked all but set to leave EFL Championship side Norwich City this summer as he aimed to play for a first-division club in Europe.

Yet after backing out of a move to Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, and reported interest from Burnley and Leeds United in the Premier League, Sargent remain a Canary for the 2025/26 season.

And while no player has fully cemented himself as Mauricio Pochettino's number-one starter in the center-forward position, Sargent is certainly putting himself in the conversation with his club form.

The American has started the campaign on fire, scoring six goals in five appearances across all competitions, yet criticism has been leveled at the forward for not making the next step in his career.

However, Sargent has backed his decision to stay in Norwich.

“A lot of decisions had to be made, not just for myself, but for my family overall. I think I’m in a good spot at Norwich,” Sargent said this. “I’m at a place where I know I can score goals, which of course, is important going into the World Cup.

“I’ve had a good start to the season, so hopefully I can continue that form all throughout the season and keep scoring."

While Sargent’s club statistics have remained solid over recent years, he has yet to replicate that same form for the national team. Sargent enters September’s camp seeking his first goal since November 2019.

He will be competing with fellow forwards Damion Downs and Folarin Balogun for minutes against Japan and South Korea.
