Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has warned his teammates not to underestimate Atalanta ahead of their Champions League fixture on Thursday night, insisting that ‘they know what they are doing, they have been doing it for many years now’.
The Italy international will return to his home nation with Arsenal for Thursday’s Champions League clash at the newly-refurbished Gewiss Stadium.
The stadium in Bergamo has recently reopened after the latest refurbishments to the Curva Sud, but Jorginho has already played there after the first round of redevelopments were completed a few years ago.
“When they built his new stadium, I played here with the national team,” he told TNT Sports.
“It was different when I used to play here in the league, very different. But it’s always a tough place to come, against a really strong side, it’s what we expect for tomorrow.”
The former Napoli midfielder went on to explain what Arsenal can expect from Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. He was asked whether they have changed much since he last played in Serie A.
“To be fair the style of play is not that different, because they have been working together, man-to-man all over the pitch and with the same coach for many years. It’s a place that I expect to be on fire and a really physical game.
“We can’t underestimate them because they’re a really strong and well-trained team. They know what they’re doing because they have been doing it for many years now. They are a really good team that we need to be careful of.”
