Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr will finalise the signing of João Félix from Chelsea over the coming hours, after the Portuguese forward landed in Riyadh to put the finishing touches on a two-year deal.
Benfica had been working hard to bring Félix back to the club, but Al Nassr hijacked the move over the weekend and the terms offered to Chelsea have proved difficult to match. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, The Blues will receive a guaranteed fee of 30m, while various bonuses and clauses mean the London club expect the deal to reach as much as 50m over the coming years.
Félix’s agent Jorge Mendes was thought to be working hard on a deal to bring the player back to Estadio da Luz, six years after leaving Estádio da Luz for Atletico Madrid in a stunning €126m transfer. However, according to Romano, there were conversations between Félix and Portugal captain Ronaldo as Al Nassr moved in.
Félix will work under veteran Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus, as well as Ronaldo, in Riyadh. Seleção international and former Porto man Otávio is expected to make way in the squad to free up space for foreign signings, with the midfielder linked with a switch to a fellow Saudi Pro League club.
