Ji-soo Kim and Tony Yogane made their competitive debuts for Brentford in the 3-1 win over Leyton Orient at the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Ji-soo, a former B-team defender who was promoted to the first team over the summer, and Yogane, still a part of Neil MacFarlane's side, were both handed their first senior minutes for the club as the Bees were victorious in the Carabao Cup third round.

Brentford went behind after the visitors took a shock early lead, but Fábio Carvalho and Mikkel Damsgaard netted their first goals for the club to put the Bees ahead on 26 minutes. Christian Nørgaard made it 3-1 a minute before the break, extending the west Londoners’ advantage as they controlled the second period to earn a place in the fourth round of the competition.

Both Ji-soo and Yogane were introduced to the game in the second half, with the South Korean centre-back replacing Sepp Van Den Berg on 76 minutes; Yogane enjoyed an impressive cameo after coming on for another debutant in Jayden Meghoma on 84 minutes.

The youngsters' debuts will be added and now makeup 30 players on the Robert Rowan debut board, which commemorates the club's former technical director, who sadly passed away in 2018.

Current first-team players Ryan Trevitt, Yehor Yarmolyuk and Mads Roerslev are all products of the B team and also featured in Tuesday's win.

Brentford B head coach MacFarlane said: "Each year we strive to produce players for our first team and we are hugely proud of the number of players we have added to Rob's board in recent years.

"We now look to continue the hard work on and off the training ground to keep giving these players lots of opportunities, but it goes hand-in-hand with their attitudes and commitment to the project."

Ji-soo arrived in west London last summer, joining from K League Two side Seongnam on a four-year contract with a club option of an additional year.

The 19-year-old headed to the USA with the first team for their pre-season tour ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and was involved in pre-season matches on home soil for the Bees in the build-up to the current campaign.

The B-team graduate made 29 appearances for Neil MacFarlane’s side last season, before earning a promotion to Brentford’s first team in June.

Yogane joined Brentford B from boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday in 2022, leaving the Owls after coming through the academy at the age of nine.

The tricky winger enjoyed a breakthrough season for the B team in the previous campaign starting 29 times for MacFarlane’s side.

Yogane, too, was recently involved in the first-team’s pre-season matches, with the youngster being one of seven Brentford B players to feature in the side’s 1-1 draw to Benfica in Portugal.
