Jason Cundy has made a bold claim about left back Marc Cucurella following Chelsea’s win against Leicester on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues were able to break down a resolute Leicester defence, with Cucurella scoring the only goal of the game with a brilliant strike on the hour mark.
The Spaniard’s second goal in as many league matches sent the Blues back into the top four, two points ahead of Manchester City and Newcastle in the race for Champions League football.
Cucurella has been in superb form for the Blues this season, and has arguably been one of the standout performers for Enzo Maresca.
The 26-year-old has developed massively under the Italian, especially in the final third and he’s now a real threat in both boxes.
Maresca praised Cucurella after the Leicester game and believes the left back has something that is difficult to find.
The Spain international has also impressed Frank Leboeuf, who described him as his idol, and Cucurella’s transformation at Stamford Bridge has been quite something.

Cucurella is right in the hunt to be Chelsea’s player of the year, and Cundy believes the former Brighton man has been as good as Cole Palmer this season.
“Cucurella gives us personality. I know he’s a pantomime villain; people love to hate him; he’s got the big bushy locks,” he told talkSPORT.
“Yeah, he plays, he gets hit, and goes down; he’s got all that about him, but what he has got about him is that he’s got a bit of spirit, and he’s got heart and gives you everything.
“If he isn’t playing well, it’s not down to the lack of determination or effort.

“He’s come up with some big moments. [Moises] Caicedo is going to win player of the year, but Cucurella is firmly in second for me alongside [Cole] Palmer.”
It’s hard to argue against the trio as Chelsea’s best performers this season, but if Cucurella finishes the season strongly there’s a chance he could pip Caicedo to the award.
