Although Jadon Sancho will not be playing at Manchester United next season, his next destination remains a mystery.

Top European sides continue to be linked with the winger, but so far, none have managed to convince him to join.

Chelsea were prepared to sign him permanently following a season-long loan, but Sancho refused to accept a pay cut, prompting the Blues to send him back to United.

By opting to pay a £5 million penalty, Chelsea avoided the obligation to buy the 25-year-old under the terms of the loan deal.

Then came the links to Juventus. The Old Lady showed genuine interest in signing United’s number 25, but they have yet to make a concrete move. Reports suggest Juve need to offload players before they can proceed with a deal for Sancho.

As Juventus stall, other clubs have entered the race.

Besiktas have approached Sancho about a switch to Turkey, but they have yet to receive a promising response.

Now it is AS Roma’s turn

Last week, Roma submitted a £20 million bid for Sancho’s signature.

Their head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, is reportedly a huge admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Of all his targets, he believes Sancho will be the standout signing. And INEOS, keen to offload Sancho, were ready to grant Gasperini his wish.

United were prepared to send the winger to the Stadio Olimpico and move on, but a fresh obstacle has emerged.

On Monday morning, it was reported that Sancho is not keen on a move to Roma. That stance should have discouraged the Giallorossi, but it has not.

According to a report from Italy relayed by The Peoples Person, Roma are still pushing hard to secure the deal.

A new tactic to sway Sancho

Gasperini remains determined to land the England international and is actively trying to persuade him to join.

Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed Roma’s latest tactic to sway Sancho.

The Italian transfer expert stated:

“Roma have not given up on the track that leads to Jadon Sancho. Tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 August, work will continue to convince the player.

“Another accomplice is Leon Bailey (who is leaving Aston Villa). The Jamaican, arriving in Rome in the next few hours, is trying to convince his friend Sancho to join him in Gasperini’s team.

“Even if the player has not given an opening and is evaluating other possibilities, the situation remains unclear. Nevertheless, there are still positive glimmers of hope this evening, Monday, 18 August, following a morning that started negatively.”

That update will offer some reassurance to Roma and their supporters.

With every piece of this transfer seemingly falling into place, except the player’s green light, persuasion is the only way forward.

Bailey could yet play a decisive role in convincing Sancho to join him at the Stadio Olimpico, where the pair could form a dangerous attacking unit capable of taking Serie A by storm.

Patience key for Roma

Patience will be crucial for I Giallorossi. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Gasperini will be hoping no other European side is as committed to signing Sancho as Roma.

If Sancho recognises that and chooses to move to Rome, he could resurrect his career in the famous yellow and red of AS Roma.
