Philogene returned to B6 after a season-long stint at the MKM Stadium

Jaden Philogene's transfer saga in the most-recent transfer window was one of the stories of the summer in the Championship.

Given the winger's impact at Hull City in just one season, combined with the Tigers' failed play-off bid under Liam Rosenior last term, it was inevitable that interest in the 22-year-old would be strong from an array of suitors.

This came just 10 months after Philogene was acquired for a £5m fee on Deadline Day in August 2023 from Aston Villa, with Unai Emery's men holding a buy-back clause in the deal, which would only come into action should Hull feature in the same division as the West Midlands outfit.

However, as interest from the likes of Everton, Ipswich Town and most bizarrely, Barcelona, came to the fore, the Villans activated their "matching-rights" clause which saw them agree the Tractor Boys' fee of £18m for his services.

But, as a result of a 30% sell-on-clause included in Philogene's previous sale to the East Yorkshire side, the hot commodity eventually signed a five-year deal back at Villa Park for the reduced figure of just £13m.

With that being said, the England U21 international is now three months into life back in Birmingham, and Football League World has compared some of the financial details from his recent return and short stint in HU3.

Jaden Philogene's salary whilst at Hull City

Given how much of a high-profile capture Philogene was last summer for the Tigers, which was more than justified with a total of 12 goals and six assists in just 32 Championship appearances due to a two-month injury lay-off, his ranking on Acun Ilicali's payroll would definitely surprise a lot of people.

The former Cardiff City and Stoke City loanee was said to be earning an estimated figure - as per Capology - of just £9,000 per week after penning an initial three-year deal, which saw him take home an approximate figure of £468,000 across the entire season.

Philogene's estimated salary whilst donning the Black and Amber made him the twelfth-highest earner on the books, with the likes of Aaron Connolly, Adama Traore and Cyrus Christie - all of whom were released at the end of the season - taking home higher pay packets than the man who terrorised numerous opposition defenders.

Given those qualities, which saw him produce moments of individual brilliance, most notably a rabona-esque leveller in a 2-1 victory at Rotherham United in February, as well as a tremendous solo goal against Preston North End at the MKM Stadium, not many could have begrudged the Hammersmith-born man's decision to return to the top flight.

Jaden Philogene's current wage at Aston Villa

Unsurprisingly, since returning to Villa, the 22-year-old has seen a major upturn in salary after agreeing the aforementioned five-year contract in July.

Given his status as somewhat of a squad player so far this season as Emery's side balance the rigours of maintaining a place in the top four of the Premier League, as well as their strong return to life as a UEFA Champions League side, which has seen them take maximum points against BSC Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna and earned them a current place at the top of the newly-formatted 'League Phase'.

Philogene is said to be earning a weekly figure of £40,000 per week in B6, coming in as the fifth-lowest earner at the club, regardless of the major increase from a personal point of view.

This will see the right-winger pocket a sum of £2,080,000 across the season, which is said to be double of what fellow starlet and former Middlesbrough man, Morgan Rogers, takes home, despite the attacking midfielder being one of the stories of the season so far.

His appearances so far this season have been limited in terms of total number, but every man has a part to play in Emery's well-planned and structured system, which saw him cause plenty of issues against Bayern and Manchester United at the start of October, before hardly covering himself in glory with a sending off against Fulham.

Either way, Philogene still has some levels to hit before he reaches full potential, and if that eventually comes to fruition, it will see City fans reminiscing about the numerous moments of high quality he gave them in such a short space of time.
