With the FIFA Club World Cup coming up, attention will quickly shift to who Manchester City will take to the United States in their squad for the tournament. Whether or not any of Manchester City’s potential new signings travel to the United States is one such story to keep track of. Also, which of City’s academy players make Pep Guardiola’s squad for the tournament squad is another interesting detail to watch out for. But one player who seems likely not to feature at the Club World Cup for Manchester City is Jack Grealish. Two reports that have come out today have indicated that Grealish won’t travel to the United States.
That news doesn’t come as a major surprise. Nevertheless, it is sad to see the manner in which Grealish’s Manchester City career is coming to an end. There appeared to be little chance of him remaining at the Etihad after this summer based on how last season ended for him. Now, it is obvious that his time at Manchester City is basically over.
Matt Law has reported for the Telegraph that Jack Grealish is not expected to be a part of Manchester City’s squad for the Club World Cup. Furthermore, Law reports that Grealish will be given the entire summer to find a move away from the Etihad. Law further reports that there is no ill will between Manchester City and the England international. Lastly, Law reports that should Grealish leave Manchester City this summer, he will do so with the blessings and best wishes from everyone at Manchester City.
Mark Critchley and Ben Burrows have also reported for the Athletic that Grealish is likely to be left out of Manchester City’s squad for the Club World Cup. Their report further confirms what Matt Law reported for the Telegraph.
The reports of Jack Grealish likely being left out of Manchester City’s squad for the Club World Cup don’t come as a major surprise. Given that the tournament goes for a month, if Grealish went to the United States, it would limit his chances of finding a new club this summer. If he picked up a serious injury in the United States, it could scupper any potential move. The decision to leave Grealish out of the Club World Cup squad is a smart business move by Manchester City. But seeing Jack Grealish’s City career seemingly come to an end in this manner is sad to watch unfold.
When 22/23 season ended, Jack Grealish played a key role in Manchester City’s successful chase for the Treble. He was an important member of Pep Guardiola’s squad in a historical season for the club. From there, it appeared that Grealish would become an even more integral component to Pep Guardiola’s side. But he never reached those heights during the 23/24 and 24/25 seasons. Heading into a rebuild of the Manchester City squad, it was hard to see how Grealish fit into the City squad.
But it is sad to see how the end of Jack Grealish’s Manchester City is unfolding. He is a beloved teammate and is one of the nicest and most genuine players and people in football. His honesty in interviews is refreshing to see. Their is a humility to Grealish, and it does leave you hoping to see him do well and succeed at Manchester City. But it appears that his days at the Etihad are numbered and that’s likely for the best for him and Manchester City.
Today’s news further confirms that Jack Grealish seems destined to leave the Etihad this summer. Hopefully, he can find a club where he can return to his best on the pitch. It is sad to see Jack Grealish’s City career has turned out. Especially when you consider where he stood in Pep Guardiola’s squad at the end of the 22/23 season.
