Former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic recently gave his take on the club’s current situation, offering a mix of hope, realism and admiration for some of the key figures at the club today.
The Croatian, who was part of the legendary team that won the treble in 2015, admitted that while Barcelona have a shot at repeating that historic achievement, it won’t be easy.
“It’s difficult, but it’s possible,” said Rakitic when asked if Barça could win the La Liga, Champions League, and Copa del Rey this season.
“The Champions League is wide open, and Barcelona are still in the race. I believe in the players, the coaching staff, and the manager. But they will need to be at their very best.”
Rakitic was full of praise for new manager Hansi Flick, who took over after Xavi’s departure. He credited the German coach for bringing much-needed direction and leadership to the squad.

“We have to give credit to the club for betting on him. He has brought personality and identity to the team.”
Still, the Croatian admitted he would have liked to see Xavi continue in charge, given their shared history at Barcelona. “Honestly, I wanted Xavi to stay. But the team has taken a step forward, and that’s good to see.”
When asked about Lamine Yamal and Gerard Pique’s comments comparing the young winger to the famous MSN trio, Rakitic didn’t shy away.
He agreed with Pique that Yamal wouldn’t have started over Messi, Neymar, or Suarez during their prime. “Pique is right. Back then, we had the best front three in football history.”
However, Rakitic made it clear he’s a fan of Yamal. “Lamine is amazing. I love his confidence and joy. He just needs to keep enjoying himself. For me, he’s always in my team.”
Rakitic’s words were respectful yet honest, showing his loyalty to the past while recognising the talent that is shaping Barcelona’s future.
