‘It’s great to have this trophy’… Barcelona midfield maestro reacts after winning MOTM award vs Benfica | OneFootball

FC Barcelona continued to showcase their strong run in the UEFA Champions League as they beat Benfica 3-1 in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie last night.

Several Blaugrana players stood out in this game. Yamal provided the assist for the first goal and then scored an amazing goal to get his side in front after Benfica had quickly equalised Raphinha’s first goal. The Brazilian scored 2 goals in the match, the second one assisted by Alejandro Balde.

However, the Man of the Match award once again went to the midfielder Pedri, who put in another impressive shift for the Catalan team.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Canarian mentioned two of his family members as he won the MOTM award for this game.

First, he joked about proving his brother, Fernando, wrong:

“It’s great to have this trophy, and it should help shut my brother up because he never stops saying that I never win it.”

Second, talking about his defensive contributions, the Barcelona midfield maestro revealed the advice his father had given him:

“I’ve always tried to give my best in defense. My father always told me that when I played just okay, at least I should work hard for the team.”

Other than that, the Canary Islander recognised that two of his teammates equally deserved to get this MOTM award:

“It could have been for Lamine Yamal or Raphinha, who deserved it.”

Lastly, the midfielder also highlighted the aspects that his team focused on while playing against Benfica:

“We simply had to stay mentally focused tonight and do the right job. I think when Barcelona plays one-touch, fast football and one-on-one situations, it must be spectacular and fun to watch.”

With this performance, Pedri went on to add another impressive performance in a season that has been simply excellent for him so far.

Hopefully, he will continue to weave his magic in the midfield for Barcelona in the coming matches and help his team get some trophies in their cabinet in the coming months.
