“It’s been an exciting few months” – Manchester City supporters receive major Etihad Stadium construction update | OneFootball

Manchester City supporters have been greeted by a significant update from the construction site ongoing around the Etihad Stadium’s North Stand.

The home of Pep Guardiola’s Treble-winning side has seen incredible change since it’s initial construction for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, when the City of Manchester Stadium featured a two-tier set-up and a running track around it’s base.

Following redevelopment into a state-of-the-art football arena and multi-use venue, the now-Etihad Stadium has seen further redevelopment, with the expansion of its South Stand to house a total of 53,400 supporters.

But given the way in which Manchester City’s ever-ambitious owners operate, the Etihad Stadium is now set to see further improvements, making it one of the finest stadia in the global game and a one-stop destination for tourists and lifelong supporters on matchday.

As confirmed by Manchester City this week, the Etihad Stadium’s North Stand expansion has taken a significant step forward with the initial steel framework now in place ahead of a planned completion of the £300 million redevelopment project by the 2025/26 season.

Manchester City have previously confirmed that the approved plan is to see the Etihad Stadium’s capacity increased to over 60,000, with the North Stand area of the site including a large fan-dedicated area, including a new megastore and 400-bed hotel.

The Etihad will also feature a brand new stadium roof walk, as part of the club’s continued goals of attracting improved tourism levels to the area of east Manchester, while City are constructing a ‘sky bar’ within the North Stand.

Managing director of operations at Manchester City, Danny Wilson explained in light of the latest developments, “It’s been an exciting few months with the arrival and installation of the first steels and fantastic to see the development and progress of the build in recent weeks.

“This project has been designed with our fans at its heart and demonstrates our commitment to create one of the most memorable fan experiences in world sport.”

In a further testament to the exciting future of Manchester City’s proud home, it was confirmed in October that the Etihad Stadium would be one of the host stadiums during UEFA EURO 2028 held across the UK and Ireland.

In total, ten stadia are confirmed to host the UK and Ireland’s largest-ever sporting event, with more than three million tickets set to be made available for the entirety of the competition, with the Etihad seeing Manchester United’s Old Trafford snubbed.

United’s new investors including Sir Jim Ratcliffe at likely to be inspired or envious of Manchester City’s facilities and stadia across town, and as such will be keen on redeveloping their own home to aid the bridging of the gap that has formed between the two institutions.
