The Seagulls play host to The Gunners in the quarter-finals at Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday evening. Brighton & Hove Albion are yet to lose at home in 90 minutes this season while Arsenal have not tasted defeat under the guidance of Renée Slegers.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Vidošić acknowledged the difficulty of the opponent but said that the occasion provides another opportunity for his side to test themselves and make history.
“Renée [Slegers] has done a fantastic job since she stepped into the role,” Vidošić said. “They won at the weekend, so they’re going to come into this full of confidence. They’re in a good rhythm.
“At the start of the season, everyone tipped them to be right up there challenging with the quality of their squad.
“For us, it’s an opportunity to test ourselves against a very good opponent, to try and play our football. We want to put ourselves in the semi-finals and give us an opportunity to make some history.”
Brighton & Hove Albion lost 5-0 at Arsenal in a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture back in November. Vidošić said that the game provided his side with some important learnings.
He said “The biggest thing that night was belief. I don’t think it was anything else, it was just that.
“When you walk into the Emirates, it has that cauldron feeling. It’s not intimidating but I can see from the players’ point of view how that was. We wanted to go in, be aggressive and do all of these things. Upon reflection, they saw that it was there for us, we could’ve played [to get a result].
“We need to go through these experiences throughout the season. There will be ups and downs, it’ll never be perfect. We just need to learn from that and we showed that against Chelsea when we were there from the first minute to the 90th.”
Brighton & Hove Albion have never featured in a major domestic cup final and Vidošić said that the team needs the fans if they are to beat Arsenal and qualify for the next stage.
He said “We do look forward to playing at home in-front of our fans. I think it’s going to be a big crowd, a lot of support behind us and we will need our fans, we will need their help like they have done all season.
“We go in confident, we believe that we can do it and that’s the most important thing. If you have belief that you can win, you never know with results in football.”
