Manchester City are in desperate need of adding more creativity to their midfield this summer. It’s arguably their biggest priority this summer. However, if Ederson leaves the club as expected, then signing a new number-one keeper could trump that particular need. Based on a new report from Sam Lee on the Athletic FC Podcast it seems that Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz are looming as City’s main targets this summer. Both players would add creativity to City’s midfield. Based on Sam Lee’s new update it appears that there is a strong chance that Manchester City could sign both players this summer.

Same Lee’s update on Manchester City’s bid to sign Gibbs-White and Florian Wirtz is a positive one.

Sam Lee told the Athletic FC Podcast that he’d be surprised if Florian Wirtz didn’t sign for Manchester City this summer. Furthermore, he shared that he had the same feeling over City’s potential move for Morgan Gibbs-White. Speaking on City’s interest in the pair he said: “Florian Wirtz. I mentioned it in my article last week that there was interest in Florian Wirtz. But I’ve had more conversations since then, and I would say it’s got to the point now, the same as Gibbs-White, where if he didn’t go to City, which is still possible, but if he didn’t go to City, I’d probably think ‘oh, something has changed there. Because City are in a good position there, from what I understand at the moment.”

“Wirtz, it’s not like City are in a super strong position, but there’s the understanding that he could leave in the summer, so there’s a bit of middle ground to find there.”

After yesterday’s reports on Florian Wirtz heading to Bayern, Sam Lee’s update is good news for Manchester City.

Yesterday saw several reports emerge stating that Bayern Munich had an advantage in the race to sign Florian Wirtz. Christian Falk reported for CF Bayern Insider that Florian Wirtz’s father sees a move to Bayern Munich as the best move for his son. Furthermore, Falk added that Bayern were hoping to leverage Wirtz’s friendship with Jamal Musiala in their bid to sign Wirtz. But Sam Lee’s update is positive news for Manchester City. They aren’t out of the race to sign one of their key transfer targets as per Lee’s new information.

But it is now clear that Morgan Gibbs-White and Florian Wirtz are Manchester City’s main transfer targets this summer. Both players would add a completely new dynamic to City’s midfield. If they could land their pair it would be a huge signal of intent from the world champions. Now it remains to be seen if they could sign the pair this summer in what looms as a critical summer for Manchester City.
