The lack of opportunities to play for James McAtee has become mind-boggling of late. The City youngster has appeared to be a player who could bring life to Manchester City’s ageing midfield. But despite this fact, he has barely featured during City’s recent run of one win in thirteen games. McAtee couldn’t even get on the pitch during Manchester City’s 1-all draw with Everton as Pep Guardiola’s side was screaming for a player to bring energy to their performance. You now get the sense that it is now a formality that McAtee will leave City next month.
Giuseppe Labellarte has reported for TBR Football that a host of clubs are interested in signing James McAtee next month. Labellarte reports that West Ham, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Bournemouth all have an interest in signing McAtee. In addition to those Premier League clubs chasing McAtee’s signature, Labellarte reports that Celtic, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta are also monitoring the situation surrounding the City youngster. Furthermore, the TBR Football report adds that McAtee has told Manchester City of his desire to leave the club next month.
Based on what has transpired this season perhaps it is best for James McAtee to leave Manchester City. It doesn’t appear that he is in Pep Guardiola’s plans and he needs to play to further his career. That opportunity just hasn’t come this season for McAtee at Manchester City. Why that is, only he and Pep Guardiola will know. But with a large list of clubs showing interest in the City youngster it would appear that now is the time for him to move. From a Manchester City point of view they may be able to get a tidy transfer fee for a player who is on the periphery of Manchester City’s first team. That would be a win of sorts out of this situation for the Premier League champions.
But it appears to now be a formality that McAtee will leave Manchester City next month. He needs to be playing to further his career and development. For whatever reason that isn’t happening at Manchester City. Perhaps it’s time for McAtee and City to part ways next month so both parties can move on.
