Real Betis star Isco has on Saturday evening sent a message of apology the way of former club Real Madrid, and their supporters.

This comes after the midfielder celebrated passionately, after notching what proved to be the winning goal of the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Real Madrid and Betis locked horns a short time ago, at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

The matchup marked an important one in the ongoing race for the La Liga title, with the former having headed into proceedings desperate to overtake arch rivals Barcelona atop the table.

When all was said and done, however, Real Madrid failed to accomplish as much.

And it was the aforementioned Isco who proved himself decisive as to why.

After Brahim Díaz’s opener was cancelled out by Johnny Cardoso, Isco stepped up to slot home the game’s decisive goal from the penalty spot during the 2nd-half.

The former Real Madrid star followed up with a passionate celebration, knee-sliding towards the corner flag whilst surrounded by his teammates.

This came as something of a surprise to many a supporter of his former club, who made clear their disappointment with Isco’s decision to celebrate.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, the 32-year-old therefore took the opportunity to say sorry:

“I apologise to Real Madrid fans for my celebration. I am very grateful to Real Madrid, they will always be in my heart.”
