Newcastle United were without Alexander Isak as they suffered a heavy defeat against Celtic in Glasgow.

Eddie Howe admitted that the Swede was not included after speculation of his future although his international team mate Anthony Elanga did make the bench after signing from Nottingham Forest.

Celtic took the lead in the 28th minute after Joe Willock was penalised for a foul in the box on Arne Engels with the Belgian scoring the subsequent penalty.

Magpies fans will be hoping some rustiness is to blame for the second goal when a long goalkick from Kasper Schmeichel went long and caught out Nick Pope who couldn't head it away allowing Johnny Kenny to slot the ball into an empty net.

The Bhoys are two games further into their pre-season after having already placed against Estrela Amadora and Sporting CP this summer. They showed their sharpness in the second half by scoring twice more.

Yang Hyun-jun made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second period after being set up by Daizen Maeda for an easy finish.

The scoring was complete in the 75th minute when Newcastle failed to deal with a corner. The ball eventually was sent back into the box with Liam Scales making it 4-0.

Celtic now have one more pre-season game before they begin their Premiership campaign while Newcastle will be hoping for a better performance when they face Arsenal next.
