That's according to a report from the Daily Mail on Friday, as Ipswich look to add some further quality to their midfield.

Town boss Kieran McKenna has already been able to bolster his options in that department with the arrivals of Jens-Lys Cajuste and Azor Matusiwa respectively, but they don't appear finished yet.

This comes after Ipswich failed in their £20m pursuit of Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney, after the England youth international turned down a move to Portman Road this summer.

It looks set to be a busy few weeks in Suffolk, as Ipswich look to ensure their squad isn't short of the quality required to win back their Premier League status this season.

Alongside the aforementioned signings of Cajuste and Matusiwa, McKenna has also been able to welcome the likes of 22/23 Championship golden boot-winner Chuba Akpom, veteran full-back Ashley Young and centre-back Cedric Kipre to his side.

However, having lost the likes of Nathan Broadhead, Aro Muric, Massimo Luongo, Sam Morsy, Cameron Burgess and Liam Delap respectively, it was always going to be vital that sufficient replacements were found.

Therefore, Tractor Boys supporters will surely be enthused by today's transfer report from the Daily Mail, who state that Ipswich are lining up a loan deal for Newcastle's highly-rated central midfielder, Lewis Miley.

The 19-year-old England youth international is a product of Newcastle's academy system, and has made just shy of 50 first-team appearances for the Magpies despite still only being 19.

Alongside Miley, Town are also said to have shortlisted Bournemouth duo Lewis Cook and Philip Billing as potential options too.

However, the Daily Mail stresses that all three of these players are far from guaranteed to be allowed to leave their respective clubs this summer, due to a combination of their own potential transfer business and their presence being required for the opening stages of the Premier League season.

Ipswich would surely strike gold with any one of Miley, Cook or Billing

So long as one of Miley, Cook or Billing puts pen to paper on a contract with Ipswich Town, then there will undoubtedly be cause for celebration and excitement at Portman Road.

All three of these Premier League players will be able to bring different qualities and experience to McKenna's side, but they all share fantastic pedigree for a Championship club to add to their squad.

As previously referenced, Miley has over 40 senior appearances for Newcastle under his belt, which includes Premier League and Champions League outings.

He's also shown an eye for goals and goal-creating ability during his time at St. James' Park, having bagged one goal and three assists in 17 top-flight appearances in 2023/24, whilst also netting for Newcastle in the Premier League last season too.

For a midfielder who won't turn 20 until the day before Ipswich Town's final game of the 25/26 season against QPR, that's very impressive indeed.

Meanwhile, Cook and Billing would both bring experience to the table at ages 28 and 29 respectively, with both defensive-minded midfielders playing key roles for Bournemouth in recent years.

Cook started 32 of the Cherries' Premier League games last season on the way to finishing ninth, whilst Billing left on loan halfway through last term to help Napoli win the Serie A title, making 10 league appearances for them in that time.

Prior to that, the Denmark international has played essential roles in helping both Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth win promotion to the Premier League, particularly the Cherries though, as he scored 10 goals and provided a further 10 assists in 40 second tier outings in the 21/22 season when the club finished second.

Therefore, should Ipswich snap up the signature of any one of these highly talented midfielders this summer, then that could see McKenna slot one of his final promotion puzzle pieces into place.
