Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has waxed lyrical about overachieving manager Simone Inzaghi.
During an interview at the Gazzetta Sports Awards via FCInterNews, Marotta discussed the club’s noticeable growth in recent years.
Inter have regained a protagonist role in Serie A since winning their 19th title with Antonio Conte in 2021.
Furthermore, Simone Inzaghi has built on his predecessor’s success, making the Nerazzurri a formidable force in European football.
Despite slumping to a 2023 UEFA Champions League heartache, the Italian giants are among Europe’s most formidable teams.
Indeed, Inter had enjoyed a stellar start to a newly formatted league phase campaign before losing at Bayer Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, they’ve consolidated their Scudetto defense after a bumpy start, making Marotta proud of the team’s progress.
“We improve with work and competence,” the Inter chief said. “This start to the season perfectly illustrates how the culture of hard work and expertise always lead to improvement.
“That’s why I’m not surprised that Inter has grown compared to the past.”
“When he arrived at Inter, he was already a good coach, but now he has become excellent,” Marotta stated.
“He has added day-by-day experience to his great abilities, increasing his value.
“Simone has the fortune of having been a player himself, so he understands the locker room and its dynamics.
“As for turnover, he manages it well and maximizes the potential of the squad we have.
“He’s among the best coaches around, and we’re happy to have him with us.”
However, Marotta urged everyone at Inter to keep their feet firmly on the ground.
“We must remain grounded, but the signs so far are very positive.
“Personally, I was confident the team would continue on the path set in recent seasons and make further progress.
“Now that these improvements are a reality, we cannot stop but must push forward and work even harder to continue growing.”
Meanwhile, Marotta expects the Scudetto race this season to go down to the wire.
“Before the end of the first half of the season, we cannot exclude teams that are a few points behind from the race for the Scudetto.”
