Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi waxed lyrical about his side’s performance in tonight’s 2-0 victory at Feyenoord.

Speaking to Prime via FCInterNews, the 48-year-old hailed the team’s collective effort at De Kuip.

Despite slumping to a late 1-1 draw at Napoli last weekend, the Nerazzurri entered the game in high spirits.

Though there were some mistakes in the early stages, Inzaghi’s charges established control of the game quickly.

However, they had to wait until the 38th minute to find the opener.

Marcus Thuram fired Inter 1-0 up before Lautaro Martinez landed a hammer blow at the start of the second half.

In doing so, El Toro became Inter’s all-time top goalscorer in the Champions League.

Had Piotr Zielinski converted a spot-kick shortly after, the reigning Scudetto holders could’ve won the tie in the first leg.

Simone Inzaghi Praises Inter Milan Performance vs Feyenoord

“They were great, it wasn’t easy in this stadium,” Simone Inzaghi said after the game. “They gave us a huge boost, we knew we had to suffer. We were united and played a great game.

“Now there’s the return leg, with another league game in between. Those are the pitfalls, but I’m very satisfied with the players.”

Asked whether he trusts Kristjan Asllani and Zielinski, Inzaghi replied: “Absolutely, I had no doubts about them.

“As a coach, I’m here to make choices, and they played a great game.

“I tried to make changes but not overturn things too much because Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan had already played in Naples.

“We’re happy to play all these games, let’s keep going.”

Alessandro Bastoni’s performance made Inzaghi proud.

“Bastoni really served the team, he played an excellent match alternating with Acerbi on that left side.

“We’re talking about a world-class defender who understood the team’s needs, and that’s exactly what we coaches want.”

Simone Inzaghi Tells Inter Milan The Job Is Not Done Yet

Inzaghi also gave Feyenoord credit for obstructing Inter’s build-up play in the opening phase.

“The opponent was of quality, they had four attackers with Paixao as a trequartista,” he stated.

“We didn’t circulate the ball well, but we know that in stadiums like this you can suffer.

“Then we got into the right shape, and the two goals made our job easier. We won the first half.

“On Tuesday, we have the second leg at San Siro.”

He also paid tribute to Julio Ricardo Cruz.

“He was a great teammate, a real person who came to Lazio and did well,” Inzaghi added.

“In fact, I didn’t play much. I would have liked to become a coach, he knows that.

“And then I had the fortune of finding two great clubs with Inter and Lazio.

“I’ve had a lot of satisfactions with the staff, we continue like this because we are judged every two and a half days.
