Inter Milan Line Up Slovenia EURO 2024 Star As Replacement For Netherlands International – Though Exit Not Likely | OneFootball

Inter Milan have lined up Udinese defender Jaka Bijol as a replacement for Stefan de Vrij.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that an exit is not currently likely for the Dutchman however.

Currently, Inter defender de Vrij is at the Euros with the Netherlands.

The Dutchman has been a key player for the Oranje at the tournament so far. He started in yesterday evening’s quarterfinal win over Turkey.

Whilst de Vrij has been starring for his national side, there have been rumours emerging about his future at club level in the meantime.

Reports indicate that Al-Ittihad are keen on the Dutchman. Coach Stefano Pioli reportedly wants to make him a major defensive reinforcement this summer.

And Inter would not necessarily stand in the way of de Vrij leaving if the right offer were to come along.

On the other hand, de Vrij does not seem particularly keen to leave.

The Dutchman signed a new contract with Inter last summer. This was despite the fact that his previous deal was expiring – meaning he could have left on a free transfer.

Had de Vrij decided not to accept an offer from Inter and leave on a free transfer, Villarreal had been strongly linked as a destination.

Meanwhile, Premier League giants Manchester United have been linked with the Dutchman recently.

Two other English teams have also reportedly shown interest, in the form of Aston Villa and Leicester City.

French team Marseille also came forward with interest.

Nevertheless, Inter are keeping themselves prepared in case de Vrij does end up leaving.

The Nerazzurri know that de Vrij could always decide to accept a big offer to move to the Saudi Pro League.

And the Nerazzurri have a clear idea of who they would go after to replace the Dutchman.

Udinese and Slovenia defender Bijol would cost around €15 million.

That is €20 million less than the €35 million that Lens are asking for Austria international Kevin Danso.

Moreover, Bijol is a player with a very similar to de Vrij’s. The 25-year-old is a tall, physical centre-back with experience playing in the centre of a back three.

Accordingly, Inter see the Slovenian as an ideal candidate to replace de Vrij directly if the Dutchman does head for the exit door.
