Inter Milan center-forward Mehdi Taremi expects a ‘tough’ match against Arsenal in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League blockbuster.
During his pre-game talk with InterTV, as reported by FCInterNews, the Iran international praised the Gunners’ strength.
Though Mehdi Taremi has frequently been Simone Inzaghi’s second choice in Serie A, he remains indispensable in Europe.
After starting the first three Champions League games, the 32-year-old will be in the XI again tonight.
Indeed, he will take Marcus Thuram’s place alongside Lautaro Martinez at the heart of Inter’s attack.
Hopefully, he’ll make good use of it, with Inter facing one of Europe’s best defensive teams.
Virtually impregnable at the back, Mikel Arteta’s men have kept a clean sheet in all three Champions League outings this term.
It’s worth noting that two came against Atalanta and Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting their immense defensive potential.
However, Inter are firing on all cylinders at Giuseppe Meazza.
They had netted at least two goals in five of their six home matches before wasting numerous chances in a 1-0 win against Venezia.
Thuram’s wasteful finishing was among the reasons Inter couldn’t beat Filip Stankovic more than once.
Therefore, the Frenchman will sit on the bench tonight, with Taremi ready to seize the opportunity.
“This match is very tough,” the ex-Porto striker said.
“We face a team that has great quality and great players.
“We have prepared well knowing that it will be a very difficult match.”
Reflecting on a rare chance to start, Taremi admitted he’s eager to impress.
“It’s a great opportunity, I always try to do my best. My focus is to do a good job.”
Inter will meet Arsenal for the first time since 2003, looking to maintain a near-perfect Champions League start.
Moreover, they have an eye-catching eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions to protect.
