Inter Milan have reportedly switched focus from Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund to Como sensation Nico Paz.
Hojlund is facing an uncertain future at United, just two years after he joined the club in a £72m move from Atalanta. He has struggled to live up to his massive price tag and last season was just another painful reminder that he currently doesn’t have what it takes to lead the line for the club.
The Dane managed just four Premier League goals, but his problems extend far beyond those disappointing numbers. He has struggled with the fundamentals of being a striker, from holding up the ball and linking play to movement and, at times, even simple passing.
His performances have been a constant source of frustration for supporters and there seems to be a general consensus that it would be better to move on from him.
Hojlund has primarily attracted interest from Serie A, with the likes of Inter, Juventus and Napoli all mentioned to be eyeing him.
However, it’s Inter who have made the strongest push so far, as they look to inject youth into an ageing squad that was humbled by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Inter have already held talks with United over Hojlund. It’s believed the Nerazzuri are keen on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, but the Red Devils prefer a permanent sale. United value Hojlund at €45m.
SportMediaset [via Tuttomercatoweb] have now given an update on the situation, indicating that Inter have abandoned their pursuit of Hojlund and have set their sights on another player – Como’s Nico Paz.
The Serie A giants are ready to divert the funds they had earmarked for Hojlund to push through a deal for Paz instead.
Paz signed for Como from Real Madrid in a €6m deal, though the Spanish giants inserted a €9m buy-back clause that expires on June 30. It remains unclear whether Madrid intend to trigger it.
The report adds that if Inter fail to land Paz, they may look to save money once more by holding onto Valentin Carboni after he recovers from a serious injury.
If this latest information is accurate, it seems Hojlund to Inter is now off the table. United will therefore need to find other clubs interested in the uninspiring 21-year-old.
