Inter Milan defensive target Nicolo Bertola continues to impress after putting on another massive performance for Italy U-21.

According to Tuttosport, as reported by FCInterNews, the prodigious Spezia center-back could join the Nerazzurri sooner than expected.

Nicolo Bertola was among the highest-rated young Azzurri in yesterday’s 1-1 home draw against the Republic of Ireland.

The 21-year-old helped his team protect their unbeaten record in the U-21 European Championship qualifying.

As Bertola continues to go from strength to strength, Spezia’s hopes of keeping hold of their youngster dwindle.

Indeed, his contract at Stadio Alberto Picco runs out at the end of the season.

Therefore, Spezia have recently made contact with the player’s entourage, Tullio Tinti, offering him fresh terms.

The Serie B outfit would hand their in-demand talent a €260,000-a-year contract to pledge his loyalty to the club.

However, their effort would likely go in vain.

With Inter in the mix, Spezia would probably look for a winter sale to avoid losing their prized possession for free next summer.

Inter Milan Defensive Target Nicolo Bertola Could Cut Ties With Spezia In January

Chances are Spezia would listen to offers for Bertola if they fail to convince him to ink a new contract in the coming months.

Inter’s original plan was to swoop for the youngster in the summer of 2025.

But an early opportunity could present itself in January.

The reigning Scudetto holders may be able to sign Bertola on a cut-price deal.

If that would be the case, Inter would likely leave the Italian center-half on loan at Spezia for the rest of the season.

Interestingly, they did a similar thing with Alessandro Bastoni six years ago.

After signing him from Atalanta, they loaned him out to Parma to gain experience and enjoy regular first-team football.

There’s a reasonable chance Bertola will follow in Bastoni’s footsteps.
