Inter Milan have reportedly made contact with Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo after failing to make progress in their negotiations with Denzel Dumfries.

The Dutchman’s contract with the Nerazzurri will expire in 2025. The club is offering a new deal that includes a net salary of 4 million euros per season plus bonuses.

However, the 27-year-old and his entourage are holding out for 5 million.

According to FcInterNews, the extension talks between the two parties have reached a stalemate.

Therefore, the reigning Italian champions will be looking to sell the player in the summer to avoid losing his services for free a year later.

This is unless the two parties manage to reach a solution in the coming weeks.

Dumfries has reportedly attracted the interest of Aston Villa who have recently qualified for the Champions League. The Villains have the means to meet Inter’s asking price of 30 million euros.

However, the two clubs have yet to start any concrete negotiations.

In the meantime, the Nerazzurri are searching the market for a replacement. They have reportedly stumbled upon Di Lorenzo who is seeking a change of air.

The Partenopei captain has been plying his trade at the Stadio Maradona since 2019.

Although he has a contract tying him to the club until 2028, he feels his cycle at Napoli has already reached its expiry date.

The former Italian champions endured a woeful campaign, failing to qualify for Europe next season.

Therefore, Di Lorenzo feels it’s time for him to move away. At the age of 30, he sees it as his last chance to embark on another experience at a top-level club.

Inter reportedly appreciate the right-back’s attributes and international experience and have already contacted his entourage a couple of weeks ago.

However, the source reiterates that this operation hinges on Inter’s negotiations with Dumfries’ agents.
