This season, Inter have had four senior strikers in the squad – Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Alexis Sanchez, and Marko Arnautovic.

And the hierarchy has been quite clear. Martinez and Thuram have been the first-choice starters, while Sanchez and Arnautovic have provided veteran backup options.

For Inter coach Inzaghi, this setup has not always been sufficient.

Particularly when one or two of the strikers have been out with an injury, the attack has quickly gotten stretched thin.

Therefore, Inzaghi wants to see Inter add another forward who can give the squad greater depth.

Particularly with the extra matches from the new Champions League format and the Club World Cup, the Nerazzurri coach wants as many options as possible in attack.

Inzaghi Wants Inter To Strengthen In Attack – Gudmundsson The Priority

A couple of things are certain as far as Inter’s attack goes.

Firstly, Sanchez will leave the Nerazzurri in a couple months’ time. The Chilean is out of contract at the end of June, and the club will not offer him a new deal.

Then, Mehdi Taremi will come in to replace Sanchez.

The 31-year-old Iranian international will arrive on a free transfer after his contract with Porto expires.

Meanwhile, Arnautovic is under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

Therefore, Inter could certainly keep the 35-year-old former West Ham United and Stoke City striker in the squad. He can provide an experienced, physical reference point in terms of holdup play off the bench like this season.

But that won’t be enough.

Inzaghi wants more quality and depth in attack. And the coach will communicate exactly that to the Inter directors clearly.

The main target for the Nerazzurri will be Genoa breakout start Albert Gudmundsson.

Inter could look to get a deal done for the Icelander on the basis of an initial loan containing a purchase option.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri could offer a young player like Mattia Zanotti in order to lower the fee for Gudmundsson.
