Today, coaches for teams in Serie A met with the Italian Refereeing Association.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the refereeing standards for the season now underway.

Naturally, the coaches will want all the information they can get regarding refereeing in the league.

There have been plenty of changes and adjustments to the officiating in Serie A matches. Particularly since the introduction of VAR.

Matters like the handball rule are always subject to a fair bit of interpretation.

Then, there are measures to more harshly sanction protests to officials. This is the case both from players on the pitch and from coaches on the touchline.

For example, there have been harsher punishments for behaviour such as players waving imaginary cards at referees or asking for VAR reviews, and for multiple players surrounding officials.

And in the case of coaches, there is always the risk of punishment such as yellow cards and suspensions for aggressive complaints to the fourth official.

Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi Praised With “Positive” Meeting With Serie A Referee Chiefs

Inter coach Inzaghi is certainly familiar with sanctions for going too far during his protests in matches.

The 48-year-old is typically fairly muted on refereeing controversies in his post-match remarks. However, he frequently becomes very animated on the touchline.

Therefore, like all of the coaches in Serie A, Inzaghi has had the chance to give his thoughts and get the referees’ perspective.

After the meeting, Inter coach Inzaghi said that “It was an important, and very positive meeting.”

“We spoke with Gianluca Rocchi,” he said, referring to the Italian referee-designator.

As far as the discussion of fouls in Serie A, Inzaghi said that “We spoke about that, but also about sendings-off and the actual game.”

“I’m happy,” Inzaghi summarized his impression of the meeting.
