Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi says that he is “not worried” about the contract extension situation of club captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team’s 2-2 Serie A draw against Hellas Verona.

In recent weeks, the spotlight has come onto the contract situation of Inter captain Martinez.

The Argentine’s current deal with Inter runs until the end of June 2026.

That means that it is not exactly imminent for the Nerazzurri to find an agreement on an extension with their captain.

However, by all accounts Inter do not want to let the negotiations drag on for two much longer.

But so far, there has not yet been an agreement on a new deal.

Reports suggest that Inter have yet to make an agreement that has been high enough for the demands of Martinez and his agent.

And further complicating matters has been the change of owners at the Nerazzurri.

Oaktree just became the club’s new owners last week. And the next two or three weeks will be a period of transition – in which major business such as a contract extension for the club captain won’t be carried out.

Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi “Not Worried” About Lautaro Martinez Contract Situation

Martinez is obviously a hugely important player for Inzaghi’s Inter. Therefore, if there were any problems with the captain’s future it would be natural for it to become a worry.

But asked about whether that’s the case, Inzaghi replied “No.”

“Because I know the kind of club we have,” the coach continued.

“There are great directors, who will keep continuity with this team.”

“Then we’ll meet about my contract extension,” Inzaghi added. “And see what to do.”

And of the change in ownership, Inzaghi said that “I thank the Zhang family.”

“I had a brilliant relationship with Steven over the last three years,” the Inter coach continued.

Inzaghi then added that “On Tuesday I’ll meet with the new owners, who are very ambitious and want to do very well for Inter.”

Then, looking ahead to next season, Inzaghi said that “We know what it means to play a lot of matches.”

“We start with our goals at the beginning of the season.”

“This season, we didn’t hide – we said that our goal was the second star, and we wanted it with everything we had even despite knowing that there were other teams also fighting for the same thing.”

Inzaghi declared that “We were the best team in Italy.”

“And now we want to confirm that. We know that won’t be easy because the other teams will be well-equipped. But we’ll prepare for it at our best.”
