Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi admits that Fiorentina “fully deserved” to beat Inter Milan, and takes responsibility for the loss.
Inzaghi spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after his team burned out to a humiliating loss at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
There was no silver lining for Inter in this evening’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.
This was both the worst performance and the worst result for the Nerazzurri this season. And certainly one of the worst since Simone Inzaghi took over as coach in 2021.
Inter had the chance to draw level on points with Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.
But after an uninspiring first half, the Nerazzurri completely fell apart in the second in Tuscany.
After the match, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi didn’t mince words or try to defend his teams.
“We got the match completely wrong,” he said. “We were lacking absolutely everything, we deserved the loss.”

“Congratulations to Fiorentina,” the Nerazzurri coach continued.
He admitted that “We didn’t react well.”
“I’m the one who takes all the blame,” Simone Inzaghi then said.
“But we need to analyze this,” continued the Inter coach. “This is not the time to blow it out of proportion, although it’s a loss that hurts.”
“But this team doesn’t end with this loss,” Inzaghi emphasized.
“The last time that we lost in the league was four months ago.”
“Now we have to face Fiorentina again,” the Inter coach noted. The two teams meet again in the league at the San Siro next Monday.
“I don’t want to look for excuses,” Inzaghi made clear. “We didn’t do what we usually do on the pitch.”
As far as how much of a blow this loss is to Inter’s Serie A title hopes at this stage, Inzaghi said that “Trying to rank the favourites at this point is pointless.”
“The only thing that can get us past this loss is work.”
The Nerazzurri coach then stressed again that “Out of the last seventeen matches we’ve had fourteen wins and three draws.”
“Tonight we were lacking everything to win. They had an injury crisis, but they were more aggressive than us and deservedly won.”
“We weren’t up to par technically,” Inzaghi added. “We moved the ball too slowly.”
The Inter coach noted that “Fiorentina defended well, and then they hit us on the counterattack.”
“Then after they scored, we weren’t able to stay organized.”
“We go home wounded,” Inzaghi admitted. “With our heads down.”
“But I only know one thing to do: work.”
“There are still fifteen matches to go and 45 points to play for. That’s a lot.”
“The team will get back, stronger than before,” the Inter coach struck a defiant tone.
