Legendary former striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge feels that Beppe Marotta was Inter Milan’s “best signing of the last decade.”

The German spoke to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews. He was full of praise for the Nerazzurri CEO.

Inter have made plenty of good signings over the last few years.

These have included big money deals for players like Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, and Benjamin Pavard who have formed the spine of the team.

Then there have been shrewd free transfer signings like Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

And the likes of Andre Onana, Romelu Lukaku, and Achraf Hakimi were all sold for significant profits a year or two after they arrived.

Matteo Darmian and Francesco Acerbi have added reliable quality and experience for low transfer fees.

But it must be noted that, since the end of 2018, there has been one man who has masterminded every single one of these signings.

Rummenigge: “Beppe Marotta Best Signing Of The Decade For Inter”

Inter brought Marotta in in December of 2018.

This was not long after the veteran executive departed from Juventus, who he had guided to an unprecedented era of dominance.

And Marotta picked up where he had left off with the Bianconeri at the Nerazzurri.

The 67-year-old has been the single most important figure behind Inter’s transfer strategy for a number of years now.

Former West German international Rummenigge spent three seasons playing for Inter, between 1984 and 1987.

Asked if he still follows the Nerazzurri, Rummenigge replied “Yes. Whenever I can.”

“I’m very happy with my friend Beppe Marotta being there,” he continued.

“I think he’s the best signing Inter have made in the last decade.”

Asked who his favourite player is in the current Inter team, Rummenigge replied “Lautaro Martinez.”

As far as whether he sees similarities in the playing style of the current Inter captain with his one style during his playing days, the German replied “A bit.”

“Because he likes to start out deeper, as I did,” he added.

And as far as Inter winning the Serie A title and with it the second star, Rummenigge said that “I’m happy.”

“But then, Inter have dominated this season the whole way through,” he added.
