Inter Milan are back in the driving seat in the Serie A title race with their convincing win over Cagliari
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that Atalanta also dropped points this weekend.
Inter have been feeling the pressure in their quest to retain their Serie A title.
There have been quite a few teams vying to dethrone the Nerazzurri. Among these have been Lazio, Napoli, Fiorentina, and Juventus.
But in the last few weeks, no team has looked like more of a threat in the title race than Atalanta.
La Dea had gone on a lengthy winning run that had seen them gain a three-point advantage over Inter in the table – albeit with the Nerazzurri having a game in hand.
Yesterday, though, Inter narrowed the gap.
The Nerazzurri produced a very convincing display in the second half against Cagliari.
This was enough to see Inter cruise to a 3-0 win in what could very well have been a tricky fixture for them.
That means that they have won all of their league matches since returning from the November international break.
And this weekend, it was Atalanta who cracked under the pressure.
La Dea had to settle for a point away to Lazio, in a stadium where Inter recently won 6-0.
The title race is certainly far from over. But there is a feeling that Inter have forced a more controlling position for themselves.
The Nerazzurri are a point behind Atalanta – but with a game in hand that could prove decisive.
Meanwhile, Inter and Atalanta both hit pause on their Serie A seasons next week to face each other in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal.
