Marco Carnesecchi has been arguably the best goalkeeper in Serie A this season and is starting to draw the attention of major clubs, including Inter. Yann Sommer has been solid for the most part, but he’s 37. They signed Josep Martinez for €15M, but he hasn’t won over Simone Inzaghi, Tuttomercatoweb informs.
The former Genoa shot-stopper could even be on his way out next summer to recoup part of the investment. Instead, the suitors of the 24-year-old are poking around to see whether he could be available.
It’ll be tough for Inter and other powerhouses to acquire Carnesecchi because Atalanta might lose different stars. Ademola Lookman and Ederson could be the next ones to leave for massive fees.
La Dea could cash in up to €100M for the duo and wouldn’t want or need to sell other linchpins at that point. The shot-stopper has kept 10 clean sheets, allowed 25 goals, and made 65 saves in 25 matches in Serie A and Champions League this campaign.
The Scudetto holders might replicate what they did with Samir Handanovic and André Onana in recent years, moving Sommer to a backup role should they land a young goalie. They have been linked also to Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose PSG contract runs out in 2026. However, his wages are humongous, and the interest might be coming more from him, as he wants to return to Italy, than from the team, Sky reports.
He’s been insane this season, and Atalanta were arguably too slow in fully trusting him. They’ll enjoy him for a couple of years before grabbing the money.
