The January window is often tricky, but it can also provide opportunities for clubs to fill key gaps in their line-ups.

Tottenham’s recent injury struggles and their aspirations for a top-four finish mean they cannot afford to tread lightly.

One insider believes a bold move in the market could be just what Spurs need. The suggestion? A loan deal for an experienced yet underutilised star.

According to Tottenham News, insider John Wenham has called on the club to sign Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Milan Skriniar in January.

The Slovakian international, who joined PSG in 2023, has struggled for regular playing time this season, with only five Ligue 1 appearances under his belt.

Wenham suggests that a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy would be an ideal arrangement for Tottenham. “It would be a bit risky to sign him permanently straightaway,” Wenham said.

“However, I think Tottenham would be wise to sign the player on loan with an option or obligation to buy.”

This would follow the playbook from Tottenham's past successes with Cristian Romero, Pedro Porro, and Dejan Kulusevski, giving the club a chance to see how well Skriniar fits into Ange Postecoglou’s setup.

Competition in the race for Skriniar

Adding to the intrigue, as we can read on Paris Saint-Germain News, Skriniar has already been granted permission to leave on loan, with Turkish giants Galatasaray emerging as strong contenders for his signature.

The six-month loan arrangement appears to be in advanced discussions, potentially complicating Tottenham’s pursuit.

Skriniar’s pedigree is unquestionable, having been a linchpin for Inter Milan before his move to PSG. However, his limited minutes this season raise questions about his current form.

Still, at 29, he offers the experience and composure Tottenham’s backline could sorely use.

For Spurs, this could be a golden opportunity. But with competition heating up and time ticking away, the North London club must act decisively if they hope to secure a player of Skriniar’s calibre.
