To say just how dire it’s been under the Glazer family’s ownership, INEOS haven’t really painted themselves in glory throughout their first year at Manchester United.

The co-owners, spearheaded by CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have implemented some of the most severe cost-cutting measures over the last 12 months that have sent shockwaves around the club, primarily due to the sheer amount of employees being let go.

End-of-season awards and last year’s Christmas party also fell victim to the harsh reductions – all while plans were being made to charge supporters  – of all ages – an extortionate £66 per ticket for any area of the stadium. The law was implemented a few months back, and the Old Trafford faithful have continued to protest the despicable change at every home game.

Last night, as United fought to take a much-needed three points from their Europa League clash with Rangers at Old Trafford, match-going Reds were forced to deal with raucous away supporters occupying sections of the home end.

In no circumstance should this be taking place as it is, but it’s now happened twice in 15 months after Galatasaray’s travelling fans manipulated the club’s weak system in October 2023, too.

While all blame cannot be shifted onto INEOS, fingers will certainly be pointed over the coming days as to how such incidents can come to fruition. They’re more than capable of hiking up the prices for each and every home game, but not blocking non-fans from pinching seats and getting lairy?

Nonetheless, a statement was released via Samuel Luckhurst post-match to address the incident: “MUFC say they took the strictest possible measures to prevent sales to Rangers fans in home sections and that tickets were only allocated to people who existed on their database before the Europa League draw in August. The club will investigate how Rangers fans were in home areas and take the ‘strongest possible sanctions taken against the registered holders.”
