Midfielder Pascal Groß is glad that “the knockout phase is finally starting. We have an interesting opponent and I hope that we make it through.” On Wednesday (2.7, 3:00 CEST), Borussia Dortmund will be playing in the round of sixteen of the FIFA Club World Cup against Mexican team CF Monterrey. “I think they will play very aggressively, seek out a lot of one-on-one tackles, and then try to counterattack. We need to hold our own, that will be very important. Maybe in a similar way to the game against Fluminense, it will be a very intense game. But if we can hold our own, we can capitalise on our footballing abilities.”
Centre-back Waldemar Anton added: “We need to be on it from the very beginning. And I think that’s the key: to put our opponents under pressure immediately, to use our chances, and of course to work together.” The squad are currently preparing for the game against the Mexican team: “It won’t be an easy game. I think they are a very robust and tough team.”
